My Experience Hiking Gunung Angsi

Standing at 825 meters, Gunung Angsi is rich in local folklore, with legends speaking of mystical guardians and spirits protecting its lush forests.

This trail isn’t for beginners. I started from the Bukit Putus Trailhead and headed towards the Ulu Bendul Trailhead.

The start of the hike was straight into stairs and slopes. Each step pulled me deeper into the wilderness. Sunlight broke through only in patches. The air was cool but heavy, tinged with the earthy aroma of damp forest and rich soil.

Beautiful forest at Gunung Angsi

The trail is formed by thick roots and slippery, uneven rocks. I found myself getting into a rhythm taking care of where I stepped as I gradually progressed to the peak.

Climbing obstacles on the Ulu Bendul Trail

There isn’t much of a viewpoint from the peak of Gunung Angsi. But the real test awaited on the descent toward Ulu Bendul. This section was steep, unyielding, and as wild as it was challenging.

The terrain required constant focus. Slippery rocks and tangled roots made footing tricky, while narrow drops kept me on edge. Guiding marks and arrows were scattered along the way, sometimes blending into the surroundings. It was essential to keep a close eye on them to avoid wandering off the trail—easy to do in the dense, winding forest.

As tough as it was, the Gunung Angsi offered a thrilling connection to nature’s raw beauty. By the time I finally emerged from the forest and arrived Ulu Bendul, I felt completely drained yet exhilarated. Gunung Angsi had given me a true adventure. An adventure that challenged my endurance and rewarded my spirit with a rare, wild beauty.
